Robert Burton
Why am I a psychotherapist and how can I help you?
You deserve peace of mind. Living with trauma, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can be overwhelming, affecting every aspect of your life and the lives of those you love. It takes tremendous courage to seek help, and I commend you for taking this important step towards reclaiming your well-being and finding solace. I created a safe and compassionate space to support your mental and emotional well-being.
My approach to psychotherapy is rooted in creating an environment of empathy, respect and nonjudgmental positive regard for the unique circumstances of each individual and family. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with clinical experience working in both a public and private psychiatric hospital in-patient settings, community mental health outpatient clinic and now in private practice.
My typical clients
By the time people reach me, they are often mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically exhausted. I understand the unique struggles and vulnerabilities that come with surviving trauma (especially narcissistic abuse) , anxiety and OCD. These conditions can create persistent worries, intrusive thoughts, and debilitating rituals that can disrupt your daily life, relationships, and overall sense of well-being.
How I help clients
My orientation to therapy is strengths based and collaborative. I honor my clients' humanity by listening to them and use a client centered approach to provide them with support. I believe that each situation is unique, and I tailor my psychotherapy approach to meet the specific needs and goals of clients. Together, we will work towards understanding your symptoms, developing coping strategies, and fostering a life filled with purpose, meaning, and joy. Through evidence-based practices (e.g., CBT, ERP, EMDR and cognitive processing) and the application of compassionate therapeutic interventions, we will work collaboratively to address your concerns, strengthen your relationships, and enhance your overall well-being.
